The First Attraction Has Arrived!

Last night we received Faller's Flipper. We had originally ordered Breakdance but the company we ordered from experienced what they called an "inventory Gremlin" and offered to send us Flipper at the same price. Flipper is a little more expensive.

So here it is, our first attraction for Mystic Mountain. Let's open the box!

Wow. There's  lot of pieces here. I took some time to get to know the different parts and to scan the decals into our computer just in case I needed to make another set down the road.

The first step began to answer the question of what makes this model for "Experienced Model Makers." Oddly enough, you start by having to drill out two holes. Strange that these two holes are not already drilled as many others are.

I then decided to paint the pieces I recognized as metal to give them a more realistic look. Here is a picture of the base half painted. The left side looks like plastic, while the right looks more like metal.

These were fun to do. They are so small that they couldn't be painted. So some colored permanent markers came to the rescue. I figure having to do too many of these will drive you crazy. I had to do this wearing a jeweler's magnifier.

No, that's not a toothpick I'm holding. It's a decal! And you have to cut them out yourself! Yikes. This was challenging but, oddly enough, I enjoyed it!

You can see these tiny decals applied to the sides of the steps. And after nearly four hours of work, here is the finished base piece.

Behind the scenes, I have been spending time with technicians at work and with some folks at Radio Shack to get a grasp on understanding how I can control the AC motor that came with the model.
